Faye Jeannie Borgedahl
The Faye “Jeannie” Borgedahl Memorial Scholarship in Baking & Pastry Arts
Lemon loaf, red velvet Bundt cake, chocolate lava cake, pumpkin pie, banana nut bread…these were just a few of the favorite things that Faye “Jeannie” Borgedahl baked regularly for family, friends and neighbors. Not everybody is lucky enough to find something they are incredibly passionate about, but Jeannie had that with her baking.
As a stay-at-home mom, Jeannie loved to make sure we always had fresh-baked snacks and desserts. It was always a great day when, after opening the front door, we would be greeted by the smell of whatever was cooling on the counter. Of course, we always looked forward to pumpkin spice season…that always made for the best smelling house!
Jeannie was told countless times that she should open a bakery, but that was never what she wanted. Instead, she loved baking for friends, family and neighbors, wanting nothing more than people enjoying whatever she made…and wanting to know what they wanted next!
Although many people asked, Jeannie was never one to share recipes. Instead, she would offer to bake whatever people wanted whenever they asked. And even if she were to share a recipe, it wouldn’t turn out the same…Jeannie always had her own little tricks and secrets to make everything taste that much better!
Jeannie was taken from us far too soon, but the house remains filled with reminders of her baking…binders filled with recipes, baking pans on the stove and her favorite hand mixers and wooden spoons on the counter. Jeannie’s legacy and love for baking will live on through this scholarship, and we believe she would be thrilled to know that somebody with the same passion can benefit and ultimately achieve their dreams.
