Brian Smith Memorial Scholarship

Hyde Park students who meet the following criteria may apply:

  • Be enrolled as a Bachelor’s degree student,
  • Have filed the FAFSA,
  • Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA,
  • Must have successfully completed the Wines course.

Preference will be given to those who demonstrate:

  • A life-long passion for learning,
  • An aptitude for describing and discussing wine and culinary experiences,
  • An interested in sharing knowledge with others about hospitality, wine, beverages, gastronomy, or food as an instructor, sommelier, product representative, or other profession that involves education.

Brian Smith was a long-time professor at the CIA, where he also served as team leader of faculty development. He wrote The Sommelier’s Guide to Wine, co-authored Exploring Wine, and was a board member of the Society of Wine Educators. As passionate about education as he was about wine and hospitality, Brian has left a legacy for CIA students who find joy in the study of wine and food … and sharing their knowledge with others.
